Bio

Another life…
Before my professional music career I studied management and marketing and printing technology. I worked in the graphic industry for several years.

Music…
I started playing the piano when I was 8. Under the loving guidance of my father I explored chords and jazz music. For 10 years I studied piano and played in jazz groups. Later on I had the honour of following piano lessons with pianist Jeroen van Vliet for a couple of years.
At the age of 40 I changed my life and was admitted at the Fontys Conservatorium in Tilburg where I graduated cum laude in 2007. There I studied with a lot of good musicians, such as Willem Kühne, Jeroen van Vliet (again), Rob van Bavel, Randal Corsen and Harmen Fraanje.

I got skilled in teaching piano at Centrum voor de Kunsten in Roosendaal and as my own boss.

Meanwhile I played in groups of saxophonist Frank van der Kooij and in several bands of my own and created a CD under my own name with the Fran Schreuder Trio.  I am a composer as well. Actually I have been living and working in France. With saxophonist Clément Renaudie I started the electrojazz duo Clé de Fra. I also participate in projects with flutist Jeroen Pek, saxophoniste Pauline Alla and bassist Henk Arts.

Writing…
My teaching gave me the idea to write a book on improvisation. My experience and knowledge on this subject encouraged me to plunge into it! It has become an interactive book (ibook) which is ideal for this subject because of the interaction and auditive possibilities.

Youtube…
I am quite successful on YouTube with my instruction videos in French and Dutch on playing the piano and improvising.

France…
Since I’ve been going to France all my life, I have decided to go and live there. I enjoy the good life in the Auvergne and met lots of very good musicians here with whom I play regularly and do several projects.
For people who want to improve there skills as improviser, I can teach you via internet.
